It’s been quite a few years since I left high school, so I was looking forward very much to yesterday’s small get-together with some of my ex-classmates. We met at about half past seven near Velký Špalíček commercial center in Brno, because we wanted to see a movie Black Swan.

I’m sure you’ve already heard about the film – it’s the drama about a ballet dancer, starring Natalie Portman (Star Wars, Closer, V for Vendetta, …), Vincent Cassel (I’ve seen no movie with him before) and Mila Kunis (I liked her character Jackie from That ’70s Show). In most countries the film was released into cinemas at the end of last year, but here in the Czech Republic it premiered just two days ago…
Even thought the Black Swan isn’t the kind of movie I usually prefer, I must say I quite liked it. The storyline is very simple and straightforward, and frankly not that exceptional. What I liked the most were surprisingly the dancing scenes – I confess that before seeing this I couldn’t imagine myself going to see the ballet performance. Now I can and I even suppose I’d like it. The best ballet scene (and maybe the best scene in the movie) was in my opinion “the dance of the Black Swan”.
As expected, a very important role in the movie plays the music. It’s really great and strongly increases the impressiveness of all scenes. However, it should be noted that credit for that must go before all to Russian composer P. I. Tchaikovsky (1840 – 1893), author of the Swan Lake.
I should also mention actors – while both Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis (I was a little disappointed that her role wasn’t a little bigger) acted very well, what made the movie so exceptional was the great performance of Natalie Portman. It must’ve been very difficult part, so I sincerely hope she wins the Academy Award for the best actress, that she was nominated for.
Overall rating: 7/10
If I should evaluate the movie I would give it seven points out of ten. As I said before, I didn’t like the plot and storyline very much and generally prefer a little different films. However, I had to increase the rating thanks to the extraordinary acting by Natalie Portman.
At the end I would like to thank a lot to all who went to see the movie with me and then continued in our night trip around Brno centre to Denisovy sady (near Petrov) and Špilberk. I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to the next action!
