Since the camp in Cala Gonone was very expensive, on our sixth day on Sardinia we decided to leave it and move somewhere else. At 10:00 our bags were packed and we were ready to go…
Riu Fiumineddu valley and Supramonte
We left Cala Gonone and went up to the hills and through the tunnel to SS 125. There we turned left and started heading south. The road started climbing up to the mountains and we saw that “Orientale Sarda” (I’d translate it like “Eastern Sardinian”) really was (and still is) the nicest panoramatic road of Sardinia… We stopped quite often near various parking places along the road, took photos and enjoyed the great views. At first there was a beautiful fertile valley of Riu Fiumineddu, full of olive orchards and vineyards. Behind the lowland we could see massif of the second highest Sardinian mountain range, Supramonte.
Gola su Gorropu (from SS 125)
After a few more serpentines and kilometres we stopped again, to enjoy the impressive view of Gola su Gorroppu gorge. I didn’t mark the location from which the view was the best, but I do remember that on the right side of the road,there was quite a big parking space and a building with a red facade next to it. After a few minutes we continued in our way… We passed Passo Genna Silana (the highest point of our journey 1018 m ASL) and after a few minutes we could see the place we were heading to – bay near the ferry port of Arbatax. We went through the town of Baunei and after a few kilometres we turned left to the village of Santa Maria Navarrese (beautiful village with a beautiful name). There we started looking for camp. Finally we ended in Camping Mare Blu near Tancau (tiny village belonging to the municipality of Lotzorai).
I must confess I liked this camp a lot. We had our tent just next to the beach (nice sandy one), there were enough trees that protected us against the direct sun and the camp wasn’t very expensive. It was the only camp where the receptionists could speek only in Italian, but on the other hand they were very friendly (“Cechi o Slovacchi?” “Cechi!”) and we didn’t have any problems communicating with them (we knew a few Italian words + the hands helped a lot:-)) The camp had only two disadvantages – 1) toilets were quite far away; 2) parking near the tent was a little difficult due to quite a dense wood.

After we built our tent, me and my parents went shopping and during the way I made a small detour to find a geocache GC26GEG All along the watch tower – Torre dei Saraceni. Its hidden near the Spanish tower, that was built in 17th century to protect the village against Saracen attacks. I found the cache quickly and continued in my way to supermercato… Nothing very interesting happened, so I’ll leave it here and will continue this series with description of the next day…
