Sardinia 2010 – Punta Maggiore (18th July)

Our second morning on Sardinia. Our today’s “target” was Punta Maggiore, 970 meters high mountain located near San Teodoro. Just like the previous track (and almost all following ones), it is described in guidebook “Sardinia: Rother Walking Guite”, written by Mithra Omidvar. We used the 3rd Czech issue of the book (from year 2003), where is this track listed as number 42.

Journey to the starting point was shorter than the one to parking under Punte Cupeti. From camp we went north, passed Budoni and get on the highway on “Budoni” ramp. After few kilometers we left it on San Teodoro exit, but didn’t enter the town itself – on the first roundabout we turned right to the village of Budditogliu. On the first branching we turned right again, went under the highway and crossed the bridge, where the road changes into narrow gravel road. Then we continued in roughly the same direction along the river to our starting point, Stazzi Petrisconi. Read More (+GPS trace, GPS waypoints, elevation diagram) »

Sardinia 2010 – Punta Cupeti (17th July)

Our first whole day on Sardinia. In the morning we set out for a trip to Punta Cupeti (1029 m ASL), located above the town of Siniscola. We had the tip for this track from our favourite guidebook “Sardinia: Rother Walking Guite”, written by Mithra Omidvar. We used the 3rd Czech issue of the book (from year 2003), and this track is listed there as track number 41.

We set out from the camp shortly after half past nine. Getting to the start of the track wasn’t too hard: At first we drove south the SS 125 road (there was a minor detour due to “men at work”) to exit “Budoni mare”, where we get on the highway. Then we drove in the direction Nuoro – unfortunately a little longer than we should have, ’cause we missed the exit located just before Siniscola and had to get off the autostrada on the next one. After a little detour we finally got (back) to Siniscola and then continued in the direction to Passo Santa Anna. We parked our car in one of the serpentines before the pass, where we arrived at about quarter past ten after 33 km long ride. Read More (+GPS trace, GPS waypoints, elevation diagram) »

Sardinia 2010 – Camping Sa Marina (16th July)

We were woken up at 5 AM by port staff, that was removing barriers blocking the access road to the ferry dock. We quickly packed our things and got into the queue for the ferry. We’re immediately checked in and then just waited for the arrival of the ship. Moby Aki arrived at about half past six, we got on its board shortly after 7 o’clock and one hour later we were leaving Livorno port…

The cruise took about 6 hours, we had a little delay and arrived in port of Olbia (city with 54 000 inhabitants located in the northeastern Sardinia in Olbia-Tempio province) at about 2 PM. Read More (+GPS trace, elevation diagram) »

Sardinia 2010 – The journey begins (15th July)

The day before yesterday I returned from our traditional family summer holiday. This time we went to Sardinia (island in the Mediterranean Sea belonging to Italy). I liked it a lot and therefore I’d like to write you something about it. This is the first part of my holiday journal…

We left Choceň at 9 o’clock, heading for Italian port of Livorno. It’s a long way (almost 1200 km), so it took us rest of the day to get there.

From our hometown we headed to Brno, then to south to Czech-Austrian borders and to Austrian capital Wien (Vienna). The following part was a little better than in previous years (we used Livorno port also for our trips to Corsica) – we didn’t have to go through the city center thanks to new roads (S1 and S2 if I remember correctly), leading us directly to the highway bridge across Donau (Danube) and to A2 highway. Then we continued around Graz, Klagenfurt and Villach to Austrian-Italian border (crossing Arnoldstein/Tarvisio). From the border we went south to Udine and then along Jadran coast to Mestre/Venezia.
